Family

February 1, 2023

My thoughts are on family,

On challenges,

tests and trials,

Job interviews,

Baby’s first steps,

Star Trek nights,

Doctor Who?

what is next.

Watching old movies

Over again,

Dinners together

Hanging out,

Taking dogs for a walk in the yard,

Doing dishes

Laughing hard,

Making time to be together,

Saying prayers for one another,

Looking back at decades gone,

Looking forward, life goes on,

The older and the new

Rainy days and the moon,

Precious time is never lost,

the gains are worth whatever cost.

rain in the forecast

January 25, 2023

When you look outside and hear the winds blow,

Just remember my hometown is getting snow,

While we have about an inch of rain,

inches of snow hits their window pane,

While not seeing the Sun makes us depressed,

the birds outside are happiest,

While they shovel, and scrape ice off their cars,

We put up umbrellas and take off in ours,

We can’t build a snow angel or snowman, or take a walk in the white fluffy stuff,

but we’re not slipping on crusty ice, and for me, that is quite ENOUGH!

I want to know those
who are not perfect,
who spoke an unkind word,
who hurt another’s feelings, or
the ones who tried and failed.
I want to know those whose hearts were broken
who did not show righteous calm,
I want to know those who forgot how to pray,
but are turning to God, again.
We are all but walkers on a path
that takes its twists and turns,
We are all imperfect travelers,
and yet, we are noble souls,
We try to light our little fire,
we try to fan the flame,
We are not here to be perfect,
but to get up, and try again.

Pink clouds tell

Of the Sun’s rising

and the light of the Moon fades into dark

as we sleep.

Who will notice?

CANDLE BURNING SERVICE for Love Abundance or Peace within image 1

In the midst of ‘the Nothing’, I will say Thy Name,

In darkness, light a candle, and begin again,

The darkness has enveloped us

We can’t see or hear each other,

We flounder in the midst of it,

we must find one another,

In the darkness, a light shines brighter

than in the daytime Sun,

When hope flounders, light a candle,

It will attract everyone.

To the police in Uvalde Texas

May 30, 2022

What happened?

Tell the truth.

Were you scared? untrained?

Did someone give an order,

and tell you all to wait?

You held back parents wanting in

to look for babies, rescue them,

or pull their bodies from the wreckage

of an AR-15.

You told a story to the news

of a ghost security guard,

We now hear that was “fabrication”

and no one takes the blame.

Tell the truth,

create the scene,

what plans were being made

when children bled out in that room

behind the barricade,

You thought he would negotiate,

You’re human, we understand.

Who was the one who took him down?

and how did he get in?

We need to know what happened,

We know you did your best,

a teenager killing children is not something

we expect.

We know that it was chaos,

First responders everywhere,

Border patrol, FBI,

but children were still in there,

Come forth and tell your story,

Where were you, what did you see?

because nineteen innocent little hearts

stopped beating needlessly.

There is a point past which

you stay awake,

as if it’s morning,

but it’s not,

as if you could work all night,

but you can’t,

Your body is playing a trick on you,

and you need sleep now

more than you know,

You are hungry,

but won’t eat,

You will dream before

the new day breaks.

Ever glowing orange

sun dips below horizon,

always moving on,

How many trips ’round the Sun

before I become

spirit without bones?

GRANDKIDS

March 13, 2022

Grandkids coming to our house,

little pieces of our DNA

molded into their own

hodge-podge of continents,

movements of peoples,

hunter-gatherers who traveled to parts unknown

settled all over the world.

Their footsteps, their journeys, appear in our chromosomes

and tell our family’s story.

Blessed are:

February 11, 2022

The poor in spirit,

those who mourn,

the meek

and the merciful,

Those who hunger,

the pure in heart,

those who search for righteousness,

Blessed are the peacemakers,

for they are the sons of God,

Bless all those persecuted,

they are the light of all,

Nothing is hid that shall not be known,

No secret is kept forever,

When a lamp is lit in a darkened room

The warmth makes all things better.
